Description

Bang Bang Cauliflower is a delicious and crispy vegetarian appetizer featuring bite-sized florets of cauliflower coated in a flavorful batter, baked to perfection, and tossed in a sweet and spicy Bang Bang sauce. This Asian-inspired dish is perfect for snacking or serving as a unique side.

Ingredients

Scale

Cauliflower Bites:

  • 1 medium head of cauliflower (cut into bite-sized florets)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • cooking spray or oil for baking

Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and water to form a smooth batter.
  3. Coat the cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, shake off excess, then coat in panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Bake: Arrange the coated florets on the baking sheet, spray lightly with oil, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and crispy.
  5. Make the sauce: Whisk together all sauce ingredients until smooth.
  6. Finish and serve: Drizzle the sauce over the baked cauliflower or toss to coat. Serve garnished with green onions or sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add extra sriracha to the sauce.
  • Best enjoyed fresh out of the oven for maximum crispness.
  • To make it vegan, use vegan mayo and maple syrup.
