Description

These Best Oatmeal Raisin Cookies are chewy, wholesome, and full of classic oatmeal cookie flavor. Packed with raisins and optional walnuts, these homemade cookies are perfect for a sweet treat any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  4. Add mix-ins: Fold in the oats, raisins, and walnuts if using.
  5. Bake: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes until golden at the edges and slightly soft in the centers.
  6. Cool: Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, soak the raisins in warm water for 10 minutes and drain before adding.
  • These cookies freeze well—just cool completely and store in a freezer-safe bag.
