Description

Indulge in this decadent Blueberry Cream Cheese French Toast Casserole for the ultimate breakfast treat. With layers of creamy cheese, juicy blueberries, and sweet custard-soaked bread, this casserole is a crowd-pleaser that’s perfect for brunch or a special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread:

  • 1 loaf French bread (about 14 oz), cut into 1-inch cubes

Blueberry and Cream Cheese Layer:

  • 1½ cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 8 oz cream cheese, cubed

Custard Mixture:

  • 8 large eggs
  • 2½ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • â…“ cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Additional:

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • powdered sugar and extra maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep the Casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and layer half the bread cubes in the bottom.
  2. Add Fillings: Scatter the cream cheese cubes and blueberries evenly over the bread, then top with the remaining bread cubes.
  3. Prepare Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Soak: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread. Press down gently to help the bread absorb the custard. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Drizzle melted butter over the casserole. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 25–30 minutes until golden brown and set.
  6. Serve: Let rest for 10 minutes before dusting with powdered sugar and serving with maple syrup.

Notes

  • You can swap in brioche or challah for a richer texture.
  • If using frozen blueberries, do not thaw to prevent bleeding.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or oven.
