Ingredients
Scale
For the Glaze:
- â…“ cup brown sugar (packed)
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Beef:
- 1 ½ pounds flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ketchup, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes if using. Set aside.
- Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear half of the beef slices for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Repeat with the remaining oil and beef. Return all beef to the skillet, reduce heat to medium, and pour in the glaze mixture. Stir to coat and simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and beef is cooked through.
- Serve: Top the beef with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or noodles.
- For more flavor, marinate the beef in half of the glaze before cooking.
- You can use honey as a substitute for brown sugar for a lighter taste.
