- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt butter and chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter with 1 cup of chocolate chips in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Slowly stir in the melted chocolate mixture.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Fold in the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
- Bake the cookies: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the tops are shiny and crackled but the centers are still soft.
- Cool and serve: Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
