Ingredients

Scale

    Ground Chicken Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 1 small green bell pepper (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Additional Ingredients:

  • 4 sandwich buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting buns)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook 1 more minute.
  2. Cook Chicken: Add ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  3. Add Seasonings: Stir in tomato paste, tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, cayenne, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Simmer: Reduce heat and let simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until thickened.
  5. Toast Buns: Meanwhile, toast sandwich buns with butter in a skillet if desired.
  6. Assemble: Spoon the chicken mixture onto toasted buns and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, serve the mixture over lettuce wraps.
  • Add sliced pickles or coleslaw for crunch.
