Ingredients
Scale
Fruit Base
- 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
Cinnamon Rolls
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated cinnamon rolls (with icing)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Layer apple filling: Spread the apple pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle ground cinnamon and nutmeg over the apples, then drizzle 1/4 cup of caramel sauce on top for a rich, sweet flavor.
- Prepare cinnamon rolls: Unroll the refrigerated cinnamon rolls and cut each roll into quarters. Scatter these pieces evenly over the apple and spice mixture to create the cake’s top layer.
- Add butter and nuts: Drizzle the melted unsalted butter evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces. If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts for added texture and a nutty taste.
- Bake the cake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls have turned a beautiful golden brown and are fully cooked through.
- Finish and serve: Remove the dish from the oven. Drizzle the cinnamon roll icing and additional caramel sauce over the top to enhance the sweetness and create a melt-in-your-mouth finish. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a nut-free version, omit the chopped pecans or walnuts.
- If you prefer a less sweet dessert, reduce the caramel sauce amount or serve it on the side.
- Use fresh apples with cinnamon and sugar as a substitution if apple pie filling is unavailable.
- Let the baked cake rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
