Description

Indulge in the rich and gooey decadence of this Chocolate Cobbler. A luscious dessert that’s easy to make and even easier to enjoy, with a self-saucing effect that creates a luxurious texture. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly heavenly experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping:

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Prepare batter: Pour the batter into an ungreased 8×8-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. Make topping: In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and remaining 1/4 cup cocoa powder, then sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  6. Add hot water: Slowly pour the hot water over the top without stirring.
  7. Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is set but the bottom is still gooey and sauce-like.
  8. Cool and serve: Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Spoon into bowls and top with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t stir after adding the hot water—this creates the self-saucing effect.
  • Serve warm for the richest flavor and texture.
