Main Chili:

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chili beans (with sauce)
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Additional:

  • 1 (28-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped green onions and sour cream for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook the meat: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Make the chili: Add chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  4. Assemble: Transfer chili to a baking dish, top with tater tots, and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  5. Add cheese: Sprinkle cheddar over tots and bake for 5–7 more minutes.
  6. Serve: Rest for 5 minutes, then top with green onions and sour cream if desired.
