Main Chili:
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15-ounce) can chili beans (with sauce)
- 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Additional:
- 1 (28-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Chopped green onions and sour cream for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook the meat: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Make the chili: Add chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- Assemble: Transfer chili to a baking dish, top with tater tots, and bake for 30–35 minutes.
- Add cheese: Sprinkle cheddar over tots and bake for 5–7 more minutes.
- Serve: Rest for 5 minutes, then top with green onions and sour cream if desired.
Notes
- You can use leftover chili for this casserole.
- For extra heat, add jalapeños or hot sauce to the chili.
