Meatballs:
- 2 pounds frozen fully cooked meatballs
French Onion Sauce:
- 2 large onions (thinly sliced)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet (1 ounce) dry French onion soup mix
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Additional:
- 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes until softened and caramelized.
- Combine Ingredients: Transfer the onions to the crock pot. Add the frozen meatballs, beef broth, French onion soup mix, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours until heated through.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the meatballs during the last 15 minutes of cooking, cover, and allow the cheese to melt.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra richness, add 1/4 cup of red wine when adding the broth.
