Description

This easy Chicken Tetrazzini recipe is a creamy, comforting baked pasta dish featuring tender chicken, rich sauce, and melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Perfect for a family dinner, it’s simple to prepare and delivers a deliciously satisfying meal with classic flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 1 (16-ounce) package linguine, or fettuccine, or spaghetti

Chicken and Sauce

  • 4 chicken breasts, cooked and diced
  • 2 (10.5-ounce) cans cream of chicken soup
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt with parsley flakes
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Cheese Topping

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the tetrazzini once assembled.
  2. Cook Pasta: Boil the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Prepare Sauce Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, softened butter, chicken broth, garlic salt with parsley flakes, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth and evenly blended.
  4. Combine Pasta and Chicken: Add the cooked pasta and diced chicken breasts to the sauce mixture. Toss gently to coat all ingredients evenly with the creamy sauce.
  5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and pour in the pasta and chicken mixture, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Add Cheese Toppings: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the casserole, then finish with a layer of grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake Covered: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to meld flavors and heat through.
  8. Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden brown and bubbling.
  9. Cool and Serve: Let the tetrazzini rest for 5 minutes after baking to set slightly before serving. Enjoy your warm, hearty meal!

Notes

  • Make sure not to overcook the pasta during boiling as it will continue to cook during baking.
  • You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier taste and reduced fat.
  • Use fresh cooked chicken or leftover roast chicken for convenience.
  • Feel free to add sautéed mushrooms or peas for extra vegetables.
  • Covering the dish with foil during the first baking step prevents the cheese from burning while the casserole heats through.
