Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 1 (16-ounce) package linguine, or fettuccine, or spaghetti
Chicken and Sauce
- 4 chicken breasts, cooked and diced
- 2 (10.5-ounce) cans cream of chicken soup
- 2 cups sour cream
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt with parsley flakes
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Cheese Topping
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the tetrazzini once assembled.
- Cook Pasta: Boil the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare Sauce Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, softened butter, chicken broth, garlic salt with parsley flakes, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth and evenly blended.
- Combine Pasta and Chicken: Add the cooked pasta and diced chicken breasts to the sauce mixture. Toss gently to coat all ingredients evenly with the creamy sauce.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and pour in the pasta and chicken mixture, spreading it out evenly.
- Add Cheese Toppings: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the casserole, then finish with a layer of grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake Covered: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to meld flavors and heat through.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden brown and bubbling.
- Cool and Serve: Let the tetrazzini rest for 5 minutes after baking to set slightly before serving. Enjoy your warm, hearty meal!
Notes
- Make sure not to overcook the pasta during boiling as it will continue to cook during baking.
- You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier taste and reduced fat.
- Use fresh cooked chicken or leftover roast chicken for convenience.
- Feel free to add sautéed mushrooms or peas for extra vegetables.
- Covering the dish with foil during the first baking step prevents the cheese from burning while the casserole heats through.
