Description

This Gluten-Free Stuffing recipe offers a delicious, traditional holiday side dish made with gluten-free bread and savory herbs, perfect for those with gluten sensitivities or anyone seeking a hearty, flavorful stuffing. It features sautéed vegetables, fragrant spices, and a moist texture achieved with broth and eggs, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Gluten-Free Bread

  • 1 loaf (14–16 oz) gluten-free bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

Vegetables and Herbs

  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Other Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups gluten-free chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Instructions

  1. Toast the Bread Cubes: Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Spread the cubed gluten-free bread in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes until dry and slightly golden. Remove and set aside. Increase the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté Vegetables and Herbs: In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery, cooking for 8 to 10 minutes until soft and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic, dried sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper, and cook for an additional 1 minute to release the flavors.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted gluten-free bread cubes with the sautéed vegetable and herb mixture. Pour in 2 1/2 cups of gluten-free chicken or vegetable broth, add the beaten eggs, and chopped fresh parsley. Gently mix the ingredients together until evenly combined. If the mixture appears dry, add a little more broth to reach the desired moistness.
  4. Bake the Stuffing: Transfer the stuffing mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake uncovered for another 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
  5. Rest and Serve: Allow the stuffing to rest for 5 to 10 minutes after baking before serving. This helps it set and enhances the flavors for a perfect holiday side dish.

Notes

  • Use your favorite gluten-free bread—white, multigrain, or cornbread all work well.
  • This recipe can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven covered with foil until warmed through.
  • For added flavor and texture, feel free to mix in sautéed mushrooms or cooked sausage before baking.
