Description

This homemade chorizo pizza recipe features a flavorful blend of spicy chorizo sausage, fresh vegetables, and melted cheese on a crispy pizza crust. Perfectly baked to golden perfection, it’s a delicious way to enjoy a classic favorite with a homemade touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 200g chorizo sausage

Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup red peppers, sliced
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Other

  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups cheese (Mozzarella or a blend of mozzarella and cheddar)
  • 1 pizza base (store-bought, prebaked, or homemade, about 10-12 inches)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven during preheating to get it nice and hot for baking.
  2. Prepare the dough: Roll out your pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to your preferred thickness. Transfer the rolled dough to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone. If you are using pre-baked dough, this step can be skipped.
  3. Precook the chorizo: Heat a skillet over medium heat, add the chorizo sausage, and cook until it releases its flavorful oils and is slightly crisp. Drain any excess grease to avoid a greasy pizza.
  4. Apply the tomato sauce: Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface of the pizza dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edge for the crust.
  5. Add the toppings: Evenly sprinkle the cooked chorizo, sliced red peppers, and red onions over the sauce. Top it with the mozzarella or cheese blend, ensuring even coverage.
  6. Bake the pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven on the baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Rotate the pizza halfway through baking for even cooking.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately sprinkle fresh chopped cilantro over the top. Slice and serve hot for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can customize the type of cheese according to your preference; a blend of mozzarella and cheddar gives a nice balance of melt and flavor.
  • If you do not have a pizza stone, a baking sheet will work fine—just be sure to preheat the oven properly.
  • Adjust the quantity of chorizo and vegetables based on your taste and number of servings.
  • For extra crispiness, brush the crust edge lightly with olive oil before baking.
