Description

Lasagna Flatbread is a quick and delicious twist on traditional lasagna, combining the creamy ricotta and gooey mozzarella cheese with seasoned sausage and marinara sauce layered over crispy flatbreads. Ready in just 40 minutes, this recipe makes a wonderful family-friendly meal that’s easy to prepare and bake.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (half of an 8-ounce package)
  • 1 (3-ounce) package Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

Sausage Mixture

  • 1 pound sausage
  • ½ (26-ounce) jar marinara sauce

Assembly

  • 6 flatbreads
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining half of the 8-ounce package)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the flatbreads.
  2. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Cook Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is no longer pink inside, about 5 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet, then stir in the marinara sauce until the sausage is evenly coated.
  4. Assemble Flatbreads: Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet. Spread the prepared cheese mixture evenly over each flatbread. Top each flatbread with the sausage and marinara mixture. Finally, sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of each flatbread.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet with the assembled flatbreads into the preheated oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  6. Serve: Remove the flatbreads from the oven, allow to cool slightly, then serve hot and enjoy this easy lasagna-inspired meal!

Notes

  • You can substitute sausage with ground beef or turkey if preferred.
  • Flatbreads can be store-bought or homemade depending on availability.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
  • Ensure to drain sausage grease well to avoid soggy flatbreads.
  • Use low-fat cheese options to reduce calories if desired.
