Description

Classic Magic Cookie Bars are a deliciously sweet and crunchy treat featuring a buttery graham cracker crust layered with sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, coconut, and chopped nuts. Baked until golden and perfectly set, these bars make an easy-to-make dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Filling and Toppings

  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1⅓ cups flaked sweetened coconut
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), or 325°F (165°C) if using a glass baking dish to ensure even cooking and prevent overbrowning.
  2. Prepare pan: Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or foil and lightly coat it with non-stick spray for easy removal of the bars later.
  3. Make crust: In a bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs with the melted butter until fully moistened. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a firm crust layer.
  4. Add sweetened condensed milk: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the graham cracker crust, spreading it gently to cover the entire surface.
  5. Layer toppings: Sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips evenly over the condensed milk layer, followed by the flaked sweetened coconut and chopped nuts, distributing them evenly.
  6. Press layers: Using the back of a spatula, gently press down on the layered toppings to help them adhere and create a compact bar.
  7. Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and bubbling around the edges.
  8. Cool and cut: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment or foil. Cut into 24 bars and serve.

Notes

  • Use glass baking dishes at a lower temperature to prevent overbaking.
  • For nut allergies, substitute nuts with additional coconut or chocolate chips.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer storage.
  • Chilling the bars before cutting can help achieve cleaner slices.
  • Feel free to customize with your favorite nuts or chocolate varieties.
