Description

These Meat Lovers Pizza Tacos are a fun and delicious fusion meal combining the hearty flavors of a classic meat pizza with the handheld convenience of a taco. Featuring a savory blend of ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, olives, and two types of cheese atop crispy flour tortillas baked until bubbly and golden, this recipe makes for a perfect crowd-pleaser or casual weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Toppings & Assembly

  • 1/2 lb pepperoni slices
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 8 small flour tortillas

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until fully browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Add the dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then stir well to combine. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Toppings on Tortillas: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay out the flour tortillas on a baking sheet. Spread a thin, even layer of pizza sauce on each tortilla. Divide the cooked meat mixture evenly over each tortilla, followed by an even distribution of pepperoni slices and sliced black olives. Finish by sprinkling shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  3. Bake the Pizza Tacos: Place the baking sheet with the assembled pizza tacos into the preheated oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly browned, and the edges of the tortillas are crisp and golden.
  4. Serve: Remove the tacos from the oven and allow them to cool slightly so they are easier to handle. Optionally garnish with chopped fresh basil, grated Parmesan, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for added flavor and heat. Cut each pizza taco into wedges and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute flour tortillas with whole wheat tortillas for a healthier version.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture if desired.
  • For extra crispiness, you can toast the tortillas lightly before adding the toppings.
  • Feel free to add other pizza toppings such as bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms according to preference.
  • To make prep easier, cook the meat mixture in advance and store it refrigerated until ready to assemble and bake.
