Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Base

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sauce and Cheese

  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese (optional)

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Optional: thinly sliced pepperoni
  • Optional: fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: Lightly flour your work surface with 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. Roll out the pizza dough to about 1/8 inch thickness, making sure pre-made dough comes to room temperature before rolling.
  2. Cut dough circles: Using a 3-inch cookie cutter or sharp knife, cut out 12-15 circles of dough depending on size preference. Transfer these dough circles onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Brush with olive oil: Lightly brush the surface of each mini pizza with olive oil to help with browning and flavor.
  4. Prepare egg whites: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg whites, salt, and black pepper until the mixture is light and frothy.
  5. Create the ghost shape: Spoon a small rounded mound of the egg white mixture onto the center of each mini pizza. Using a spoon or toothpick, make two small indentations on either side of the mound to form the ghost’s eyes.
  6. Add eyes: Place a small slice of black olive into each indentation to complete the ghost’s eyes.
  7. Preheat oven: Set the oven to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to fully preheat.
  8. Bake the mini pizzas: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust becomes golden brown and the egg white sets. Keep a close eye toward the end to prevent burning.
  9. Prepare toppings while baking: While the pizzas bake, get your pizza sauce and shredded cheeses ready.
  10. Add sauce and cheese: Once the mini pizzas have cooled slightly, carefully spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over each, avoiding the egg white ghost face to keep it distinct. Then sprinkle mozzarella and provolone cheese evenly on top.
  11. Add optional toppings: Add thin slices of pepperoni or fresh basil leaves if using to customize your mini ghost pizzas.
  12. Finish baking: Return the pizzas to the oven for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  13. Cool and serve: Let the mini pizzas cool slightly. Then serve immediately, optionally garnished with Halloween sprinkles or candies for festive presentation.

Notes

  • Make sure dough is at room temperature before rolling to make it easier to work with.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • Watch the pizzas closely during baking to avoid burning the crust or egg whites.
  • The egg white ghost shapes should be added before the first bake to ensure they set properly.
  • Customize toppings to suit dietary preferences or to add variety.
  • These mini pizzas work great as party appetizers or fun snacks for kids.
