Perfect for holiday gifting or satisfying a sweet tooth, this fudge is simple to make and can be customized with crushed peppermint candies on top for an added festive crunch.
Ingredients
Scale
Fudge Base
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
Topping (Optional)
- 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candies or mint chocolate pieces
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal of the fudge after it sets.
- Melt the Chocolate Mixture: In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Avoid overheating to prevent scorching.
- Add Extracts: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract and peppermint extract thoroughly to infuse the fudge with a rich mint flavor.
- Pour into Pan: Pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula for a smooth surface.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies or mint chocolate pieces evenly over the top, pressing lightly to adhere if desired.
- Chill: Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2 hours or until firmly set.
- Cut and Serve: Use the parchment overhang to lift the fudge out of the pan. Cut into 16 small squares and serve chilled or at room temperature.
Notes
- Store fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- For a smoother texture, use a double boiler to melt the chocolate instead of direct stovetop heat.
- Substitute peppermint extract with spearmint or omit for plain chocolate fudge.
- Make sure to crush the peppermint candies finely so they don’t overpower the texture.
- Allow fudge to come to room temperature for a softer bite if preferred.
