For the steaks:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the gravy:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Cook the patties: Brown the patties in a skillet for 4–5 minutes per side. Set aside.
- Make the gravy: In the same skillet, sauté mushrooms in butter. Add flour, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer until thickened.
- Simmer the steaks: Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve: Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- For extra richness, stir in a splash of cream at the end of cooking.
- Ground turkey or pork can be substituted for the beef if preferred.
