Chicken:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Toppings:
- 1½ cups marinara or pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Optional toppings such as sliced pepperoni, olives, or sautéed mushrooms
Instructions
- Season and Coat Chicken: Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then coat them lightly in flour.
- Sear Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Add Sauce and Cheese: Pour marinara sauce around the chicken. Sprinkle mozzarella over the top, followed by Italian seasoning. Add optional toppings if desired.
- Cook: Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 5–7 minutes until chicken is cooked through and cheese is melted.
- Broil: For a browned cheese top, broil the skillet for 1–2 minutes.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

- If chicken breasts are thick, slice them horizontally for faster cooking.
