Description

These Strawberry Buttermilk Doughnuts are a delightful treat, bursting with fresh strawberry flavor and a sweet glaze. Baked to perfection, they make a perfect breakfast or dessert option.

Ingredients

Scale

Doughnuts:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup finely chopped fresh strawberries

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons strawberry puree
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a standard doughnut pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Add strawberries: Gently fold in the chopped strawberries.
  6. Bake: Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared doughnut pan and bake for 10-12 minutes until done.
  7. Make glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, strawberry puree, and vanilla for the glaze.
  8. Glaze doughnuts: Dip the cooled doughnuts into the glaze and allow excess to drip off.
  9. Serve: Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • Use freeze-dried strawberries for the glaze if fresh ones are too watery.
  • Best eaten the day they’re made but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
