Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
Other Ingredients
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef and Onion: In a skillet or large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion together until the beef is browned. Drain any excess grease to keep the casserole from being too greasy.
- Add Potatoes and Sauce: Stir in the thinly sliced potatoes, condensed cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to your taste.
- Simmer the Mixture: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the potatoes are tender and flavors meld.
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
- Transfer to Casserole Dish: Pour the beef, potato, and sauce mixture into a greased casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
- Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the mixture.
- Bake the Casserole: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool slightly before serving to allow it to set a bit for easier slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or cream of chicken for different flavor variations.
- Using Yukon gold or red potatoes works well for slicing and cooking evenly.
- For extra flavor, add garlic powder or smoked paprika when seasoning.
- This dish can be assembled ahead and refrigerated before baking to save time.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
