Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Prepare dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the milk and sour cream.
- Combine dry and wet ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the milk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and frost: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely before frosting.
